Fantasy Sports Gets More Fantastic
Two online sports powerhouses join forces
Each year at this time, millions of people—who for the past four months paid no attention to college basketball—will take the time to evaluate the relative merits of Murray State, Wofford and Siena as they fill out their brackets and predict the winners of the NCAA tournament on Yahoo! and many other places. It shows how much we love our sports, and how much we love the chance to prove that we’re smarter than our friends, co-workers and Aunt Mable.
Yahoo! has long had a robust line-up of fantasy sports offerings, and we just made a huge free-agent signing in this area. This week, Yahoo! announced that we’ve entered an agreement to acquire Citizen Sports, a move that promises some exciting opportunities for users and advertisers alike.
Millions of people use Citizen Sports’ products to play fantasy sports, fill out brackets, check live scores and read up-to-the minute news using Facebook, MySpace, hi5, iPhone and Android. This acquisition should lead to Yahoo! Sports’ content being integrated throughout Citizen Sports, while Yahoo! Sports users will be able to demonstrate their allegiances, chat with friends and fans, and indulge their obsession in all sorts of other ways.
Read more about the acquisition on Yahoo! Anecdotal.
